Hypothesis

A hypothesis is an idea or explanation for something that is based on known facts but has not yet been proved. It represents an idea of a cause and effect relationship that is supposed to exist.

A hypothesis is a testable statement that is derived from a theory, accounts for a set of facts and can be tested by further investigation.
