Philosophical Stance
Philosophical stances reflect major differences in opinion over the nature of truth and how we arrive at it through scientific investigation. Thus, the stance you adopt affects which methods you believe lead to acceptable evidence in response to your research questions. Being explicit about your stance helps when talking and writing about research because you might not be able to convince other people to change their stance, but you will be able to argue cogently for why you chose the methods you did. Some dominant philosophical stances are positivism, constructivism, critical theory, and pragmatism.

O posicionamento filosófico reflete diferenças significativas de opinião sobre a natureza da verdade e de como chegamos a ela através da investigação científica. Por isso, o posicionamento que você adota afeta que métodos você acredita que levam a evidências aceitáveis em resposta às suas perguntas da pesquisa. Ser explícito sobre o seu posicionamento ajuda ao falar e escrever sobre pesquisa, pois você pode não ser capaz de convencer outras pessoas a mudar seu posicionamento, mas pode ser capaz de argumentar de forma convincente sobre por que você escolheu os métodos que escolheu. Alguns posicionamentos populares são positivismo, construtivismo, teoria crítica e pragmatismo.
